High School Biology Department: Project Showcase

November 22, 2022

Biology is a discipline dedicated to observing nature and summarizing the principles of nature. In addition to the teaching of theoretical knowledge, the SHSID High School Biology Department also spares no effort to create opportunities for students to slow down and lean in to observe the natural phenomena around them. At the same time, the Biology Department also actively builds a display platform to encourage students to express their love for nature. In the 11th week of this term, the ninth- and twelfth-grade classes held unique student project demonstration activities.

The 9th-grade students learned the concept of ecology at the beginning of the semester and understood the interaction between organisms and the environment. Based on abiotic and biotic factors, the Earth can be divided into different biomes. In order to present these abstract concepts in a concrete way, the students themselves became "creators" and used handy materials to create biomes with different styles. In the process of preparing models, students needed to think carefully about the interrelationships between biotic and abiotic factors. From the tundra to the tropical rainforest, the students' exquisite models and scientific introductions accurately captured the characteristics of each biome. The Q&A session after the exhibition was also very lively. Through the mutual questioning and answering, the students' thinking about the laws of nature was further improved.

The 12th-grade students recently learned the concepts of botany. As it is late autumn already, the plants have also begun to show their own skills to cope with the changes in the environment. The most intuitive is reflected in the leaves. To encourage students to observe nature and summarize the principles, the 12th-grade students collected different leaves around the campus under the leadership of the teacher and made exquisite "autumn leaf art paintings". Students not only consolidated their theoretical knowledge, but also awakened their respect for the beauty of nature and the wonder of life.
