Grade 12: EcoCap Sharing

October 26, 2021

As the weather rapidly changes, students in Grade 12 gather in Xianmian annex once again on October 21stfor an assembly where Amy Wang and Lilian Fan raise awareness on environmental issues.

Starting with alarming pictures and statistics regarding floods, Lilian explains the two reasons why this seemingly natural disaster can be caused by global warming due to more rainfall and a higher sea level. Lilian was inspired by an online video she has recently seen about how fixing just one part of climate change is not going to be enough. Although people are beginning to be more conscious of CO2 as well as food emissions and their impacts on the environment, simply targeting these aspects of climate change prove to be insufficient. Unfortunately, as Lilian introduced, eliminating 100% individual emissions in fact only reduces global energy emission for one second. Concluding her part, Lilian believes “we don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly, we need millions of people doing it imperfectly”, corresponding to one of EcoCap’s missions.

Explaining what EcoCap has done to benefit the environments on school campus and the community in general, Amy then presented activities such as EcoRun, paper recycling, and EcoCap’s constant publication of articles on their official account.

After this insightful presentation to promote environmental awareness, we hope students can all become more mindful of their decisions and be more environmentally conscious.
