Grade 6: Class Reading Corner and Mini Grade Library Awaits Your Arrival

October 22, 2021

Class reading corner and a grade mini library are waiting for you to come! The sixth-grade Reading Club activity has officially begun!

In order to prepare for the following activities, the Book Club held ameeting. Ms. Chen and Ms. Zhao, who are in charge of the Reading Club, introduced the schedule of activities for this semester.

First of all, each classroom will set up a “reading corner.” This semester, there is a reading theme for each month. the book club will recommend one or two books which are related to the theme, and will also welcome students to bring some books to share.

This month’s theme is “Youth’s Mind”: encouraging students and parents to pay attention to mental health. At the end of this month, there will be a sharing meeting with a psychology teacher; any student who is interested can join. The November theme is to read sci-fi-themed books, and a sci-fi writer will be invited to give a lecture. Sixth graders will read nature-related books in December, while January 2022 themes will be chosen by members of the Reading Club.

In addition to the “reading corner” in the classroom, there are three “mobile mini libraries” in the hallway on the third floor of the Zhongxing Building. Two of the bookshelves will be for books and magazines from teachers’ recommendations. Some are related to the theme of that month, such as this month’s “Mr. Toad to See a Doctor,” “Grandma’s Letter of Apology,” and other psychology-related books. The third bookshelf—the “hungry bookshelf”—is also worthy of students’ attention. The reason for calling it the “hungry bookshelf” is because this shelf is temporarily empty, waiting for students to bring their favorite books to “feed” it.

Students can borrow books from the three shelves during class or lunch breaks, and members of the reading club will take turns on duty to manage these public shelves. We hope that the class reading corners and mobile mini library can bring students more “pleasant” reading time!
