Grade 10: Arms of Love

October 8, 2021

During the 10th-grade morning assembly on September 29, seniors Helen and Yuzhen, junior Jessica, and sophomore Bobby introduced the SHSID students’ club Arms of Love. During the summer, Helen visited the Bekaa Valley located in Lebanon, a place with the highest concentration of Syrian refugees. There, she observed the living environment of the refugee families and directly talked to them over several matters.

As she pointed out in the presentation, the Syrian refugee crisis remains one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world. As an effort to improve the status of these refugees, Arms of Love is dedicated to informing others of the crisis, fundraising and donating masks, and reaching out to interview Syrian refugee families. Whereas these may be small steps to making a change, they are essential for starting something big.
