High School Math PBL Courses Kicked Off

On September 28th, PBL courses in Grade 9 and 10 finally started. Among all these courses, some Math teachers have offered a variety of topics on cross-disciplinary application of Math in real life. Ms. Yuan’s course in Grade 10, Event Marketing Dynamics, covers some basic theories in marketing and leads students to discuss on branding strategy while experiencing events by planning and running them. In this course students will also learn sampling, a very important topic in Statistics, and apply it to event strategy.

Ms. Wang and Ms. Ye’s course in Grade 9, Case Study of Mathematical Economics, is designed to teach students important economic concepts and theories, the data analysis skills and application of mathematical model in economics.

Ms. Li’s course in Grade 9, Exploring Geometry with Origami, provides students with interesting hands-on experience. Students will learn the basic operations in origami and their relationships with geometry and practically work on origami projects from the simple to the complicated, from 2D to 3D, from observing to doing.

These PBL courses are different from traditional math classes in that they not only extend the scope of high school math but also empower students to dominate the process of teaching and learning. Students’ abilities are cultivated through interesting projects.
