On September 13th, 8th graders had played a game called Rummikub, which is tile-based game that can be played between 2 to 4 people. According to the data we’ve collected, only 34% of 8th grader know how to play this game, and there’s over 70% of students who are excited about this game.

In the Youth Development class, students played Rummikub in teams of six. There was a dramatic difference of how students played the game. Some of them already finished their tiles while some students still were on the “Ice Break” (First Stage). But overall, the event was very fun and was enjoyed by 97% of students. Rummikub is a game that depends on making fast choices when the game can change dramatically in a turn. Today’s event has been counted as successful.

Directions:

To play this game, you need to mix up all the tiles, and each player will receive 14 tiles to start. After the game starts, if this is the first round, you have to select any number of tiles that add up to 30 or more. You can give out at least 3 cards as a group, and unlimited groups. The cards must be in numerical order if they are not in same color, or they must have the same number if they are in the same color. If else, then you will have to pull a random card from the left-over tile stack. There is an exceptional card— “The Smile Tile,” where it can count as any numbered tile and colored tile. Once you have passed the first stage, you can add tiles to groups of tiles to decrease the amount of card you have. However, you still need to make sure each group has at least 3 tiles and their orders. When a player used all his/her tiles, the player wins and get a number of points by the sum of the people (who lost)’s cards.
