Grade 11 Assembly: 300 Million - Skate Up

September 22, 2021

On September 17, during the second Friday morning assembly of the new semester for juniors, our students invited Yu Yongjun, the short-track speed-skating world champion and ambassador of the "300 Million - Skate Up" public-service campaign, to give a speech in the context of the school's new skating rink. The students watched the promotional video of "Three Billion - Skate Up" and the video of Yu Yongjun winning the championship on the big screen before the speech started. Everyone was curious and amazed after watching the video and couldn't wait for the event to start.

First of all, Yu Yongjun briefly introduced the series of "300 Million - Skate Up" public welfare activities, including "China Speed Challenge" and "Skating Basic Skills Competition". He strongly encouraged SHSID skaters to participate in more skating activities and distributed materials so that skaters could get more information about skating in the future. With the new skating rink at school, it is easier for students to develop a passion for skating or refine their already established skating skills. Whether they are good at it or not, Yu Yongjun encouraged all of them to give it a try.

Next, Yu Yongjun shared his own skating journey. He has been training hard for years in order to succeed in skating. Although he was sometimes disappointed or, at times, lost his confidence, he never gave up. He said his persistent faith and hard work led him to win the championship. As an ambassador of the "300 Million for Me - Skate Up" charity campaign, he hopes to pass on this persistence and belief to the students as well, whether in skating or learning, and hopes everyone will stick to her own passion as well.

Finally, he was kind enough to invite the students to keep in touch with him. He also shared his experiences growing up in a Korean family and entertained the Korean students in the audience with his fluent Korean. The morning assembly came to a close with the applause of all students. We hope that everyone will find their own passion and pursue it enthusiastically and persistently just as Yu Yongjun said.
