Grade 12: The Merits of Chess

September 18, 2021

In the early hours of September 16th, the seniors were funneled into the Xianmian Auditorium for their weekly assembly.

They were initially greeted by a pair of students who promoted a new flash-mob event, to be held once a month, and encouraged anyone interested to join. After that, students CJ and Phillip were invited to the stage to share their experiences with the age-old classic – chess. Both had participated in various renowned chess events, including multiple American, countrywide competitions in which they took home high honors, acquiring first and third place overall, respectively. Both students were ranked quite highly for their age group. The two then discussed the existing chess club within the school, speaking on how it conducts multiple trainings each week under the tutelage of an official Team China chess master. They presented the merits of chess, including practising analytical and calculation skills, invited all to join, and encouraged all to never resign when playing chess.
