G1-3: Fun Games, Happy Athletes

The Opening Ceremony was held on the soccer field starting with two wonderful speeches from Director Zhang and a student athlete representative, Albert from 3(2). Albert shared his own sports story and encouraged everyone to enjoy the fun of sports. Director Zhang listed many benefits of sports and emphasized the importance of group sports programs for students' personal development and class construction, and also sent her best wishes to the Sports Meet.

After the wonderful speech by Director Zhang and the athlete representatives, the cheerleading performance began. The children wore sports club T-shirts, held up pompoms, and accompanied music to dance. After the children's performances, teachers who dressed in sportswear, wearing a hat with the SHSID logo on their heads, showed their great dance. After that, the teachers brought a flash mob with the song “My People, My Country” to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. Everyone waved pompoms and the event was immersed in patriotism.

In the Sports Meet, students had lots of competitions, like throwing rain boots, sandbags, and garbage sorting relays. All the competitions were carried out in an orderly manner, and the stadium was full of cheers. In addition, there was a parent-child event called “Zhu Xing Wan Li”. Children and parents formed groups to transfer the beads. With their joint effort, the fun was shared by everyone.

G4-5: Teamwork Makes Dream Work

The Sports Meet of Grades 4-5 was held in the afternoon. At 1:00 pm, students from each class marched in the playground. Each class chose an Olympic sport and gave a 30-second show in front of the stage. They also had slogans of their own class.

The students were in good spirits and moved forward together, showing good team spirit. After all classes entered, the representative of athletes, Eva from class 4 (1) class, gave a speech on sportsmanship. Then Director Zhu of Grade 4-5 delivered the opening speech. She elaborated the meaning of sports for us. Taking sports can not only strengthen the body, but also cultivate the perseverance of personal spirit and the spirit of solidarity and cooperation.

After that, all little athletes performed martial arts. With powerful movements and loud slogans, the performance looked like real martial arts. The cheerleaders also brought their spectacular performances. Finally came the teachers' dance performance. The cowboy dance was full of energy and earned loud cheers from the students. As the dance ended, in a warm atmosphere, Principal Liu announced the official start of the Games.

All of the students in fourth and fifth grade participated in the sports games. There were collective, individual, challenge and relay events. Each student was expected to fully demonstrate their skills, enjoy the games, and cultivate a sense of collective honor.

There were many kinds of interesting events. Collective events included the trash sort relay, obstacle repay, and hula hoop relay. Individual events involved 50-meter sprint, chicken toss, standing long jump, and stepping stones. Challenge projects were switcheroo and Splat the Rat, and the last event was an 8×50 meters relay race.

Every student did their best in the competitions, carrying forward the spirit of courage, and they were not afraid of suffering or exhaustion. The cheers on the field never stopped. To be fair and equitable, the referees were also very serious in timing and recording points in the games. The final 8×50m relay race was the climax of the sports meeting. After a fierce competition, the sports meeting culminated in the cheers.
