High School: Achievements in Competitions

Since January of this year, the high school students of SHSID have achieved remarkable results in various competitions. Let’s review some of them.

The UK Chemistry Olympiad

Nearly 600 candidates from 126 schools participated in the UK Chemistry Olympiad held in January. Two students from our school won the gold medal and seven students won the silver medal.

American Computer Science League

5 groups of high school students participated in the American Computer Science League, and all of them were qualified to enter the finals through the individual competition and collective programming.

American Academic Decathlon (USAD)

In the American Academic Decathlon (USAD) China Tournament, all 4 SHSID teams got into the Top 10, with one bringing home the championship title. SHSID decathletes managed to carry home 26 bronze, 17 silver, and 16 gold medals.

Intel Science and Engineering Fair

8 students with excellent projects excelled in the Intel Science and Engineering Fair China round. Two students moved on as finalists and will attend the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.

Brainbee Competition

7 students participated in the National Finals of the 2019 Brainbee Competition held in Beijing. With their efforts, two students won first prize and third prize, respectively. SHSID also won the best organization award.

AMC / AIME

After taking AMC 10/12 on Feb 14th, 2019, six SHSID high school students—one from grade 9, two from grade 10, two from grade 11, and one from grade 12—are eligible to participate in AIME. The top 2.5% of AMC 10 contestants and the top 5% of AMC 12 contestants are eligible to participate in the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME).

IMMC

7 groups of students have excelled to the international round of the International Mathematical Modeling Challenge.

China Thinks Big (CTB)

In the national finals of the annual China Thinks Big (CTB), 12 teams from our school broke through and entered the finals. After the project display, project promotion, judges' defense, and case analysis, one team won the national special prize, two teams won the national first prize, one team won the national second prize, and one team won the third prize.

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)

From Jan. 31st to Feb 2nd, 12 students from SHSID attended the final round of the national Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) China Regional competition in Shanghai. Though this is the first time SHSIDers participated in FBLA, they all received outstanding results in the marketing module.

Shanghai adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest

In the Shanghai adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest, many students won awards and a group of students qualified to attend the final round. Studying sleep, herbal therapy, and Alzheimer's Disease, two grade 11 students competed among other "young scientists" of various ages who did research in Math, Engineering, Social Sciences, etc. Over the course of two days, these researchers pitched their projects to multiple professionals while they answered challenging questions directed at their projects. During the closing ceremony, the project earned first prize, the Pharmacology award, and the Mayor award for Shanghai adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest.

Envirothon

8 groups of students participated in the Envirothon held in March, and 5 groups of students successfully advanced to the China Finals, occupying a quarter of the final teams.

HMUN China 2019

From March 21st to 24th, 11 student delegates across three grades and two senior assistant directors embarked on a unique journey to Beijing for Harvard Model United Nations China 2019.

As a result of these students’ diplomatic abilities, SHSID was awarded Best Large Delegation at HMUN China 2019.
