Pudong Campus: The Jungle Book, More than a Play!

January 10, 2019

The cold winter couldn’t contain our enthusiasm to watch the performance. At 6 p.m. of January 10, 2019, the auditorium was full of people waiting for the play to begin. “The Jungle Book” is the first show performed by the drama club of SHSID (Pudong), and the proceeds will be donated to Love Flying Project which promotes the training of rural teachers.

There were 28 performers from grade 1 to grade 5 in the drama club participating in the rehearsal after class during the whole semester. Although it took a lot of effort, everyone gained experience and knowledge from the play by analyzing characters, character modeling and memorizing each line. It was fun to learn how a good stage play comes together and to see the importance of being a part of a good team. Supported by all the teachers and lead by Miss Sissy, the drama club took part in the first drama competition of SHSID, and got the prize for Group Participation Award and Best Actor.

Finally, the Jungle Book was on stage and we thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful show! The little actors played tigers, bears, monkeys, wolves, pythons, panthers and many other jungle animals. With their rich body language and expression, they showed us a picture of a fantastic forest, and took us on an adventure with a human boy called Mowgli and his animal friends. The children's performances, full of childlike innocence and fun, drew in every audience member, who left understanding the suffering, rules, courage, responsibility, wisdom and love embodied in the story.

It was not only a display of the children's talents and ability, but also a medium to improve their self-confidence and creativity. The performance also had an even more special meaning - to make the world a better place because all the ticket sales are being donated to Love Flying Project. The students’ performance can help teachers improve the quality of rural education and pass our love to the children in the countryside.

We look forward to more wonderful and meaningful performances by the school drama club in the future!
