Pu Xi Grade 4: Series of Reading Activities

In SHSID, there is a great change between Grade3 and Grade 4. For the new 4thGraders, the change is not only about having a homeroom without teachers staying inside, but also about lots of new knowledge in different subjects. In order to help the kids to adapt this kind of changing, we need to develop their efficient reading skill and self-study habit. But first of all is develop a habit of reading. Therefore, the series of reading activities were born at the right moment.

Our reading series activities include 3 parts, and the 1stpart is daily reading log. Kids need to take at least 10 minutes every day to read variety of books and then write the reading log on contact books after they finish their homework. Homeroom teachers will check the reading log on the coming next day, and give the kid who does a very good job one A+. If the kid gets enough A or A+ on their contact book, they may change them with praising note or stars on star board.

The second part of reading series activities is the reading race which took one month during this semester. Every kid will get one book mark and decorate it by themselves. After finishing one book, their homeroom teacher will give them some questions about that book. If they can give correct answer they will get a special stamp on the book mark. Gathering more than 10 stamps on the book mark, they will have chance to join the pizza party.

The third part is reading-buddies activity which means every 4thGrader will make a company with one 2ndGrader and share the reading time at least for once in each month. At that time, the 4thgraders will read the book to the 2ndgraders or help the 2ndgraders read the book by themselves. Both of the readers and the listeners are really enjoying the activity.

The reading series activities will run through the whole semester, and help the kids to lay a solid foundation for good reading habit.
