Pudong G5—Connecting-five Chess Game

It is a tradition for Pudong Grade 5 students to have a grade-wide competition every month. At the beginning of the new semester, they started to have the first event — connecting-five chess game.

The competition takes place everyday during recess. Before the competition, students in class 5(1) and 5(2) were assigned numbers and matched together. The format is similar to a bracket-style elimination event. The winner will be in the second round. We will have the three final winners after three competitive rounds.

All the students are excited about the game, and they take every chance they get to practice with their friends. Akie, a girl from 5(2), did not know how to play the connecting-five chess game before the competition. With the help of her classmates, she learned about it and enjoys it very much.

What impressed all the Grade 5 teachers and students is that our new ASB (Association of Students Board) members play an important role. They are the judges and often help the teachers organize the game. Although they are sacrificing their lunch break time during some days in September, they feel proud to arrange such a game and serve their classmates and friends.

The connecting-five chess game is a good beginning for the new semester for all Pudong Grade 5 students and teachers. We are anxiously anticipating the basketball-shooting and puzzle competitions in the coming months.
