Chinese Scavenger Hunt - Pudong G5

Which phrase do Chinese people use to show great expectation for their kids’ studying and careers? Why did the early people name the animals “dinosaur?” With questions like these, the fifth-grade students went to Shanghai Science and Technology Museum for a scavenger hunt about “dragons” on the first Friday of the new semester.

To welcome the Chinese lunar “Dragon Year,” the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum is having a special exhibition with giant dinosaur skeletons and interesting introductions about the importance of dragons to ancient Chinese people.

On Feb.10th, the grade 5 students got a scavenger hunt sheet with about 10 Chinese questions about dragons and dinosaurs on it and they were required to find the answers in the exhibit. By answering all the questions correctly, they could show the answers to the two homeroom teachers and get a stamp on it! They got a reward when they got back to school if they got that stamp.

They started to discuss the questions as soon as they got the questions. Some shouted,“Hey, I know the answer to question 10!” Some asked the teachers, “Can we really find all the answers in that exhibit?” They kept discussing the questions all the way from the school to the museum.

As soon as they stepped into the exhibition hall, the students were shocked by the giant dinosaur skeletons. They surrounded them and observed them with great interest. After that, some of the students noticed the touch-screen facilities in the hall and started to do the exercises and learned about the introduction on it.

The most exciting part came last—some staff in the exhibition hall took out some cards and gave them to the students. On one side of them was some special stamps with dragons, and on the other side was the wishing card. Students wrote down their New Year wishes and stuck them on the red and gold “Dragon Wishing Wall” outside of the hall with the ‘dragon skeletons.’

With all these wishes, our scavenger hunt came to the end. We hope that all our wishes can come true!
