Middle School : 2024 Sports Meet
With the refreshing autumn breeze and lush green grass, the annual school sports meet has begun, bringing with it an atmosphere of joy, culture, and vitality. Students and teachers from the middle school gathered together to witness this exciting moment. Ms. Zhang Zehong, Secretary General of SHS, Mr. Liu Maoxiang, Vice Secretary General of SHS, Mr. Liu Lian, Principal of SHSID Middle School along with other grades supervisors and middle school teachers attended the opening ceremony to cheer on the students.
On the field, students from Grades 6, 7, and 8 were neatly arranged according to their houses: Azure Dragon, White Tiger, and Vermilion Phoenix. Following the speech by the Vice Principal of the SHSID Middle and Primary School, Mr. Shen Tianyuan, representatives from each house introduced their unique characteristics and led their teams in shouting their slogans, demonstrating their youthful energy and team spirit.
The opening performances by each house centered around the Olympic spirit while also showcasing the fusion of Eastern and Western cultures. Originating in Greece, the Azure Dragon team took the stage first, performing a dance inspired by ancient Greek priestesses leading maidens in prayer to Apollo, embodying elegance and solemnity. This performance not only highlighted the Olympics as a sporting event but also as a symbol of peace and unity, echoing the message of the Athens Olympics — moving forward from the starting point, from victory to new victories.
Next up, the White Tiger team presented a dance themed around the 2024 Paris Olympics, incorporating breakdancing, a new Olympic sport, performed by fifteen students, showcasing the passion and vitality of athletes and symbolizing cultural exchange and integration.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!" The powerful drumbeats heralded the performance by the Vermilion Phoenix team. The strong rhythms resonated like the heartbeat of history, stirring the soul; dancers moved gracefully in sync with the beats, displaying a perfect blend of strength and grace. This performance not only symbolized the phoenix rising from the ashes but also embodied the indomitable spirit of the Chinese nation. It evoked memories of the glorious moments of the 2008 Beijing Olympics when China demonstrated its profound cultural heritage and vibrant vitality to the world. Just like the Vermilion Phoenix representing the Southern Fire, symbolizing light and hope, this performance beautifully fused traditional culture with modern spirit, highlighting the unique charm of Chinese culture.
Foreign and Chinese teachers also showcased off their talents, bringing performances of flag dancing, martial arts, and dances that further elevated the atmosphere. After the solemn oath taken by an athlete representative from Grade 8, Principal Liu Lian of the Middle School announced the official start of the 2024 sports meet.
In the thrilling events, young athletes displayed the same spirit as Olympians. On the wide track, runners sped like arrows, each acceleration thrilling the audience; in the field events, the power and skill shown in jumping and throwing events were equally captivating.
As the competition progressed, cheers from the stands rose and fell, filling the air with the scent of osmanthus, creating an atmosphere brimming with youthful vigor and positivity.
Following a morning of intense competition, the afternoon brought a carnival of fun activities. Games such as speed caterpillars, lacrosse, precision shooting, and ice sports diversified the meet, emphasizing teamwork and enjoyment over mere competition. On this day, sports became the bond connecting every participant, offering everyone more joy and reminding us that in this era of intertwined cultures, unity, cooperation, and happiness remain our shared pursuit.
