Middle School Science Department: Eighth Graders Re-Exploring the Microscopic World — In-Depth Observation of Mitosis

December 19, 2024

On December 18, 2024, eighth-grade students utilized microscope in the lab to conduct detailed observations of the mitotic process in onion root tip cells and ascaris eggs. The students had previously studied cell division theory systematically in class, and this lab session provided them with an opportunity to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical application, further deepening their understanding of cell division.

During the experiment, under the guidance of their teacher, the students successfully identified cells at different stages of division. Using high-power microscopes, they clearly observed the arrangement of chromosomes in onion root tip cells, as well as the formation of a new cell plate during the later stages of division. In the ascaris egg cells, they discovered the unique contractile ring structure characteristic of animal cells, which visually demonstrated the significant differences between plant and animal cell division processes.

This in-depth observation of cell mitosis was not only a journey of scientific exploration but also a memorable practical experience in the students' educational careers. Witnessing the mysteries of cell division firsthand sparked their strong interest in life sciences and enthusiasm for exploring the unknown. This practical activity undoubtedly planted the seeds of scientific inquiry in their minds, inspiring them to continuously seek truth on their future learning paths and strive to uncover more mysteries of the natural world.
