Elementary Mathematics Group | Math Competitions
As time flies by, the semester is quietly coming to an end. To help students deepen their understanding of new concepts and foster good learning habits, the fifth-grade mathematics team at Shanghai High School International Division thoughtfully organized two engaging academic events. These competitions brought the old saying "Learning is like rowing upstream; to stand still is to fall back" to life and served as a thorough reflection of students’ learning attitudes.
The first event was the Math Speed Calculation Competition, which focused on five-digit multiplication and division, complex mixed operations, and clever problem-solving strategies. The competition challenged students to think logically and calculate with precision. Students were fully immersed during the contest, pens flying across their papers, each moment showcasing their thirst for knowledge. Even after completing their answers, they meticulously reviewed every detail, striving for perfection. After the competition, teachers praised the standout performers and awarded certificates of honor. Like shining milestones in their academic journey, these awards celebrated their hard work and persistence.
Following this, the spotlight turned to the Note-Taking Showcase held the next week. Students proudly presented their most impressive class notes from the semester, showcasing their dedication and learning progress. Each notebook told a story of effort and consistency. Teachers evaluated the entries based on detail, neatness, and innovative techniques, selecting the most outstanding ones. These exemplary notes were then shared on the LC online learning platform, where students across the grade voted to crown their "Note-Taking Stars." Winners not only earned widespread recognition but also became role models, inspiring others to adopt effective note-taking methods.
These events provided more than just a platform to display academic achievements—they became powerful motivators, igniting students’ passion for learning and boosting their self-driven study habits. The thrill of competition and the joy of recognition spurred them on to tackle new challenges and reach greater academic heights.
In summary, both the Math Speed Calculation Competition and the Note-Taking Showcase were a celebration of students’ learning and a testament to their attitudes toward growth. These events will inspire students to keep pushing forward, exploring the vast and exciting world of knowledge.
