The 2024 “Little Grass Cup”: Focusing on Homework Management to Enhance Teaching Quality
On the morning of December 25, 2024, the SHSID High School annual teacher professional development event, the “Little Grass Cup” was held. This year’s theme is “What is Effective Homework Management? A New Year, A New Journey: Teachers’ Exploration of Homework Management”. It aimed to delve into this semester’s focus on homework management and to help teachers further enhance their professional skills and teaching practices. As a traditional professional development event of SHSID High School, the “Little Grass Cup” has become an important platform for promoting teachers’ professional growth and providing valuable opportunities for experience exchange and teaching innovation.
This year’s “Little Grass Cup” featured two main sessions. In the first session, four teachers delivered insightful speeches under the theme of “The Wisdom of Management”, exploring the integration of homework management with teaching strategies from different perspectives. Their presentations addressed four key areas: formative assessment, enhancing students’ writing skills, reading assignments, and large-scale projects for comprehensive skill development. They shared their practical experiences and reflections, providing attending teachers with a more systematic and profound understanding of optimising homework design and improving homework quality.
Following the speeches, an award ceremony recognised teachers who have made significant efforts in homework management. This recognition not only celebrated the award-winning teachers but also encouraged more teachers to continue innovating in their teaching practices.
The second session featured group discussions where subject teams conducted in-depth dialogues on “Homework Design” tailored to the unique characteristics of their disciplines. The discussions revolved around three key aspects: designing to meet diverse needs, aligning with teaching objectives, and adapting to technological advancements. Teachers actively shared outstanding examples and creative approaches based on their teaching practices. These included tiered homework, differentiated homework, interactive homework, exploratory homework, complementing post-class homework with classroom exercises, and managing homework through virtual laboratories.
As a significant traditional event for teacher professional development at SHSID High School, the “Little Grass Cup” not only serves as an annual summary and exchange of experiences but also as a forward-looking vision for future teaching practices. Through this event, teachers deepened their understanding of the importance of homework management and explored innovative methods. With the arrival of the new year, they are committed to adopting more systematic and scientific approaches to homework design and management, fostering students’ holistic development and continually improving teaching quality.
