SHSID Launches Hsi Building Laboratory Complex, Advancing Creative Education to New Levels

Under the vision of establishing Shanghai High School as a “top-tier research-oriented and innovative institution for foundational education,” the SHSID Middle and Primary School have launched a state-of-the-art creative laboratory complex in the Hsi building. The official  opening, during this semester, the project has garnered strong support from several prominent research institutes and universities in Shanghai. Following extensive curriculum reviews and multiple rounds of expert discussions, the plan culminated in the creation of 32 laboratories spanning approximately 3,000 square meters, encompassing disciplines such as biological sciences, environmental science, physics, engineering, and creative design.

Upgraded Conventional Laboratories

In this upgrade, we introduced cutting-edge interactive microscopes and dissection systems, enabling seamless collaboration among students and facilitating efficient device management by teachers. These advancements have diversified the teaching methods for science classes, transforming lessons into captivating experiences that ignite students’ enthusiasm for learning.







Creative Laboratories Paving the Way for the Future

Designed to foster high-level inquiry-based learning and independent research, these facilities were developed to university standards. Equipped with cutting-edge devices like confocal Laser Scanning Microscopes, In Vivo Imaging System, Ultra Deep Field 3D Microscope, HBK Noise and Vibration Analysis Systems, Portable Optical Tweezers, High-speed Cameras, 3D Scanners, Laser Cutting Machine and even chassis for electric vehicles and wearable eye-tracking devices, the labs offer students an unparalleled research environment and learning experience. This platform empowers them to cultivate innovative thinking and exploratory skills.














Creative Curricula Empowering Growth

This semester, leveraging the advanced laboratory infrastructure, the school revamped its course offerings, introducing nearly 70 exciting and challenging STEAM creative courses tailored to students' grade levels, abilities, and interests. The new curriculum, akin to a kaleidoscope of knowledge, spans fields such as biological sciences, environmental science, behavioral and social sciences, physics, creative design, music, and art.

With expert guidance from teachers, these courses enable students to deepen their understanding of theoretical knowledge through hands-on practice while honing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
