High School Physics Department: Experimental Exploration on "Moment of Inertia"
On December 30, the campus in winter was filled with enthusiasm for exploration. Ms. Chen Qin from the high school physics department led the students of AP Physics to the physics laboratory in the Yifu Building and embarked on an exploration journey centered around the "moment of inertia."
As a key and challenging point in AP Physics, a moment of inertia often makes students hesitant and deeply confused during the learning process. With her profound teaching skills and sincere dedication to education, Ms. Chen carefully built a framework of theoretical knowledge for the students in an interesting way at the beginning of the class. She dissected the abstract and obscure concepts layer by layer, enabling the students to outline precise knowledge contours in their minds. Subsequently, the students quickly engaged in the experimental operations in groups. They carefully installed the rotating shafts, precisely adjusted the pulleys, and carefully measured parameters such as the mass and geometric dimensions of the rigid body, with full concentration and perseverance in their eyes. Every step was carefully considered, and every data record was strived to be accurate. Group members exchanged and discussed occasionally, and the sparks of thought constantly collided in the heated discussions.
Ms. Chen shuttled among the various groups, patiently answering questions, solving doubts for the students, and giving prompt guidance to ensure that each group's experiment proceeded smoothly. Under the teacher's meticulous guidance, the students completed the experiment, obtained reliable data, and deeply understood the physical meaning of the moment of inertia. They also learned how to analyze experimental errors and improved their scientific research ability. Through hands-on experiments, those formulas initially obscure and challenging to understand in textbooks suddenly came to life.
This experiment class centered around the moment of inertia was of great significance. It ignited the students' thirst for knowledge and cultivated their spirit of teamwork and scientific exploration, allowing them to appreciate the unique charm of physical science truly. In such an intense learning atmosphere, the students will surely be able to sail forward bravely on the journey of physics learning, continuously harvest the fruits of knowledge, and march courageously towards higher academic peaks.
