Learn from the Past, Go for the Future!: Sixth Graders Kick Off the New Semester with Traditional Culture

February 24, 2025

On the afternoon of February 20th, sixth-grade teachers and students launched the new semester in youth development class. This event revolved around the theme of "Reflection · Growth · Outlook", employing methods such as self-reflection, school rule learning, and activities rich in traditional cultural elements to infuse the new semester with positive energy.

At the beginning of the class, students engaged deeply in self-reflection through a process of "Think, Write, and Share". Each student wrote down their highlights or achievements from the previous semester, challenges or setbacks encountered, and areas for improvement in the new semester on their worksheets, which served as the basis for group sharing and discussion. Such reflection not only helps students gain a clearer understanding of their growth and shortcomings, but also provides a basis for setting goals for the new semester.

Building upon this foundation, the class progressed to an interactive session called "The Temperature of Words". Each student received two sticky notes where they anonymously wrote down one sentence that made them feel respected and another that saddened them. These notes were then displayed on A4 papers placed on desks, collectively forming a "Classroom Words Map".

On this civilized consensus, teachers and students used Lantern Festival folk activities as a bridge to usher in the new semester's outlook:

- Guessing Lantern Riddles: Colorful riddles adorned the public areas of each floor in Section D of Hsi Building, with students holding answer sheets, pondering or discussing, sparking intellectual sparks amidst traditional wisdom.

- Shaking Dumplings: Participants, with ping pong balls attached to their waists, energetically twisted and turned, trying to shake out the "dumplings" from the boxes, much to the amusement of onlookers.

- Picking Up Dumplings with Chopsticks: In this competition, students became "chopstick masters", carefully picking up slippery ping pong balls with chopsticks and placing them into plates.

- Paper Cutting and Making Lanterns: Despite being novices and somewhat clumsy in technique, everyone was brimming with enthusiasm.

As spring is in the air and everything comes to life, nourished by traditional culture, students will face the challenges of the new semester with even greater passion, blossoming with their own brilliance on the path of growth!
