2025 Shanghai High School Instrumental Music Competition Concluded Successfully
On February 28, 2025, the long-awaited final of the Shanghai High School Instrumental Music Competition (High School Division) took place. After intense competition in the preliminary rounds, 10 outstanding contestants from both the Local Division and the International Division advanced to the finals, where they performed on the same stage in front of an audience of over 1,000 students. This grand musical event concluded successfully, showcasing the exceptional talents and musical abilities of our students.
During the competition, the contestants presented a variety of pieces with their unique interpretations, earning enthusiastic applause from both the audience and the judges. The string instrument contestants moved the audience with their delicate melodies and rich emotional expressions; the wind instrument contestants demonstrated their artistic flair with their skilled techniques and passionate performances; the Chinese instrumental contestants, with their distinctive timbres and deep Chinese cultural roots, sparked the audience's appreciation for the beauty of traditional Chinese music; the percussionists, with their powerful rhythms and dynamic stage presence, created an energetic and lively atmosphere.
The judges highly praised the contestants' performances and particularly noted the remarkable presence of Chinese traditional instruments, with half of the performers playing Chinese instruments, and some of the performers coming from the International Division. This phenomenon was commendable, highlighting the importance of cultural heritage and the spirit of passing on traditional Chinese music to young people and international students alike. The judges also remarked that Shanghai High School's instrumental music education not only focuses on cultivating technical skills but also emphasizes inspiring students' musical thinking and creativity. This philosophy added a special dimension to the competition, making it a true exploration of musical art.
After careful evaluation by the judges, the top winners of the competition were selected: Daniel Xie from SHSID and Y.C. Jin from SHS won the first prize; Hank Yu、Siqi Chen、Andy Chen from SHSID and Q.H. Cheng from SHS won the second prize; Chi Pak Yu、Edward Xu from SHSID and L. Zhou and M.Q. Wang from SHS won the third prize.
The echoes of the music still linger in our hearts, and the stirring melodies continue to resonate. This competition was not only a test of skill but also a dialogue between the soul and art. May each contestant carry the growth and insights from this stage as they continue to pursue their own musical journey and create their own artistic chapters.
