Grade 12 Personal Growth Course: Mastering Time
On March 4, the new pre-departure lecture focused on effective time management—a crucial skill for university life. Compared to high school, college students will face more academic and extracurricular choices, making it essential to manage their time wisely. The lecture introduced practical strategies, including habit analysis, goal-oriented scheduling, and time-blocking techniques, highlighting the benefits of strong time management for university and future careers.
The speaker, Mr. Higgenbottom, defined time management as setting and prioritizing goals and engaging the audience with interactive questions. Key strategies included the Record-Analyze-Change method, where students track daily activities to identify patterns and make adjustments, and the SMART goals framework, which encourages breaking larger goals into manageable steps. The concept of "prime time" was also introduced, advising students to schedule intensive tasks during their most productive hours and lighter activities during less focused times.
Additionally, Mr. Higgenbottom discussed time blocking and Parkinson’s Law, emphasizing the importance of setting reasonable time limits to increase efficiency. Tools like productivity apps were recommended to minimize distractions. In closing, the speaker reminded students to leave room in their schedules for unexpected opportunities and to maintain a balanced approach to avoid burnout.
This lecture equipped students with practical time management tools, helping them better prepare to transition from high school to university life.
