March 21, 2025

On March 2nd, the preliminary round of the International Linguistics Olympiad China Open (IOLC) concluded successfully in Shanghai. Competing against top linguistics talents from across the nation, students from SHSID high school showcased exceptional skills and a strong foundation, achieving a historic breakthrough with numerous awards.

The competition was highly competitive, attracting outstanding students from across China. Despite the challenge, our students delivered outstanding performances. In the individual category, seven students earned High Distinction (top 10%), four received Distinction (10%–30%), and five were awarded Merit (30%–50%). In the team category, five students achieved High Distinction (top 10%), and 16 students qualified for the Final Academic Exploration Camp.

Most of the award-winning students are members of SHSID’s Linguistics Club, a hub for students passionate about multi -language and problem-solving. Led by instructor, Ms. Li Yi, the club provides a strong foundation in linguistic theory through well-structured lessons and engaging activities. Club leaders and the instructor regularly introduce challenging linguistic puzzles to spark curiosity and encourage exploration. Additionally, the club hosts lectures featuring experts and scholars, exposing students to advanced linguistic research and broadening their understanding of the field.

Congratulations to the winners! We welcome more students to join the Linguistics Club, to explore the beauty of languages, and achieve new milestones together.
