Grade 11: Course Selection Consulting Session Held
On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, G11 homeroom teachers organized one-on-one meetings with students to refine their course selection plans, ensuring that these plans align with their long-term academic goals, future aspirations, and college preparedness.
By aligning coursework with their interests and strengths, students can deepen their expertise in targeted fields while demonstrating intellectual curiosity and commitment to universities.
Students arrived at the conference having already submitted a draft of their course selection forms. During the sessions, teachers reviewed extracurricular involvements and individual academic strengths to offer tailored recommendations. Key discussion points included how selected course related to the students’ interest and intended major and so on.
This meeting was critical for several reasons. By providing real-time feedback to students’ initial plans, the risk of misaligned choices are further reduced. This helped students to make their future pathways in academics clear, allowing them to better thrive.
Meanwhile, G11 IB students who chose to write their extended essays in the humanities and social sciences gathered in Zhongxing Building 104 to learn more about the research process from Mr. Joshua Pickart. He suggested several important steps students should go through while researching, such as making a mind map with their research question and sub-questions, conducting a holistic literature review, and organizing notes in an annotated bibliography. He also answered several questions posed by students, such as how quantitative research could be incorporated into humanities EEs. Students walked away from the learning session with a greater understanding of how to conduct research effectively.
Overall, this Wednesday’s CAS class was fulfilling to all 11th grade students. Despite different course selections, the information they gain from these periods will help them recalibrate and walk their paths with greater clarity.
