Grade 12 Personal Growth: Mastering Roommate Relationships

March 25, 2025

On the afternoon of March 18, grade 12 students attended a pre-departure personal growth workshop at XMT Annex Hall. Mr. Higgenbottom led the session, which was part of the pre-departure lecture series and began with an engaging rock experiment to simulate potential college life challenges.

The workshop first reviewed six characteristics of healthy relationships, including mutual respect, trust, and effective communication. It then focused on identifying signs of unhealthy relationships, such as physical violence and verbal abuse. Regarding roommates' potential mental health issues, the teacher explained response strategies: active listening, asking about support needs, regular check-ins while respecting privacy, and seeking professional help in emergencies.

Concluding the session, Mr. Higgenbottom encouraged students: "College life will be an important stage of your growth. May these practical relationship skills help you build harmonious roommate relationships and find warmth away from home."
