High School Chemistry: Discovering the World, Delighting in Nature
On March 21 at noon, the high school chemistry department hosted a unique chemistry reading event in the Zhongxing Building Hall. The event, themed “Discovering the World, Delighting in Nature,” centered around several classic books related to chemistry and science. Through interactive games, experimental demonstrations, and knowledge competitions, the event aimed to spark students’ interest in the microscopic particles, the macroscopic world, and scientific exploration, encouraging them to delve into the mysteries of nature and seek true knowledge.
Silent Spring: A Chemical Action to Protect Spring
At the “Silent Spring” booth, students answered questions related to biology and chemistry, gaining a deeper understanding of the impact of pesticides like DDT on the ecological environment. For each correct answer, students prevented the spread of DDT and earned stamp rewards. Faced with challenging questions, students collaborated, thinking together and searching for solutions, demonstrating teamwork and scientific literacy.
COLOR: The Shimmering Secrets of Nature
In the “Chemical Color Exploration” section, students participated in multiple-choice questions about light absorption and color formation, further understanding the principles of chemistry in the world of colors. Meanwhile, the “Flower Color Secrets” segment guided students to explore the scientific principles behind flower colors and examine famous flower representations in literature. By drawing and coloring information cards, they seamlessly blended scientific knowledge with artistic creativity, immersing themselves in the fascinating connection between color and chemistry.
Molecular Republic: A Glimpse into the Molecular World
“Molecular Republic” was one of the most popular segments of the event. The game, focused on molecular structures, properties, applications, and chemical equations, allowed students to earn points by answering questions and competing for the highest awards. The activity not only tested students’ chemistry knowledge but also exercised their logical thinking skills.
The Science of Sherlock Holmes: A Symphony of Reasoning and Science
At the “Sherlock Holmes’ Scientific Wisdom” booth, students became chemical detectives, using scientific methods to solve hidden clues. They studied how “disappearing ink” fades and tried to discover a way to restore its color. This segment showcased the application of chemistry in detective science and allowed students to experience the fun of chemistry through hands-on reasoning.
This chemistry reading event, combining education with entertainment and practical knowledge with fun, guided students to explore the mysteries of chemistry and appreciate the beauty of nature in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. In the future, the high school chemistry department will continue to organize similar scientific reading events, encouraging students to understand the world through reading, delight in nature through exploration, and cultivate their love for science, curiosity, and innovation.
