Grade 10 Assembly: Stepping into the World of Scientific Research

March 27, 2025

On the morning of March 27, the tenth-grade students gathered in the B1 Theater of Zhongxing Building for their weekly assembly. This time, the session centered around an introduction to the upcoming activities and an inspiring journey into the world of scientific research.

The assembly began with two eleventh-grade students introducing Thursday’s environmental protection event, which featured creative upcycling projects—such as transforming old T-shirts into tote bags. They encouraged everyone to participate, emphasizing that the event would not only provide a fun and relaxing experience but also offer a deeper understanding of environmental sustainability.

Then came the morning's highlight: a fascinating talk from Sophie, a fellow tenth-grade student who captivated everyone with her journey through scientific research. With an engaging and personal approach, she assigned unique and all-rounded ratings to each of her past science projects, reflecting the challenges and rewards she encountered along the way.

For example, she recalled her first experience in biological research during 2022–2023, giving it a high “frustration” score due to the ethical dilemmas of conducting experiments on small animals. The second time around, she refused to engage in animal testing and instead explored bacterial growth, which she rated high in terms of “achievement.” Through years of trial, reflection, and growth, she eventually reached her final SHSEF chemistry project, awarding it the highest overall score, as she finally felt she had found the field that truly resonated with her passions and interests. Her journey left a deep impression on the audience, providing valuable insight into the process of refining one’s research focus—from exploration to mastery. More importantly, her story equipped her peers with new perspectives and practical skills, inspiring many to take their first steps into the world of scientific research.
