Grade 10 Assembly: Photography Sharing

April 3, 2025

On the morning of April 2, Grade 10 students gathered at the Zhongxing Building B1 Theatre for their weekly morning assembly. This session primarily promoted lectures, resources from a school club, and the experience of sharing a student’s hobby.

Firstly, Bella introduced the SciLab scientific research project. The club activities primarily target Grades 9 and 10 students, offering tailored guidance—from foundational literature searches and selecting research topics to entering the lab and collaborating with mentors to complete a project. She strongly recommended this club to high school students interested in scientific research but unsure where to start, emphasizing the opportunity to develop and fully execute their projects under mentor guidance.

Next, Milly shared her journey with photography. For her, photography’s allure is capturing life’s fleeting, beautiful moments through photos and videos. She explained how precise control over every detail—light, colour, composition, exposure, shutter speed, focal length, and more—culminates in creating a "perfect" image. She then compared the technical features and use cases of each camera she owned, highlighting the irreplaceable charm of film photography in an era dominated by digital imaging. Milly also stressed that photography isn’t just about taking pictures; post-processing is equally vital. She shared that abundant online tutorials detailing how to use editing software and tools help beginners quickly grasp the craft.

Reflecting on her passion, Milly remarked that the moments captured today through the shutter will, years later, serve as proof of the places we’ve lived and the world as it once was. Additionally, she noted that photography has deepened her understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures. When traveling, she immerses herself in learning about local customs and histories to document a region’s essence through her lens. Concluding her talk, she quoted a line from the school’s TIMES magazine: “The people who make up today’s thriving photographic community are our eyes to the world.”
