Oxford Global MUN-SHSID
From April 4th to 6th, OXMUN Global-SHSID united aspiring student diplomats and passionate Oxford University Directors for a truly unique Model United Nations conference. The conference celebrated intellectual engagement and the organizational excellence that fueled every aspect of the conference.
The opening ceremony set the tone for a journey of diplomacy and discovery. Three hundred thirty-one delegates from across the country gathered in the Grand Auditorium to listen to speeches from Mr. Ma Feng, Principal of SHSID High School, the Secretary General of Oxford Global, and the SHSID Student Secretary General. These speakers reflected on the evolving responsibilities of international cooperation, establishing a foundation for delegates to explore these challenges through committee debate.
During the first round of committee sessions, delegates swiftly found their rhythm. Whether discussing foreign aid in SPECPOL, Women in STEM in CSW, or space sustainability in UNOOSA, voices rose with confidence, evidence, and passion.
Throughout the conference, the Chairs guided the flow with grace and precision, while the Assistant Directors ensured procedural logistics ran seamlessly. As the debate intensified, blocs formed and draft resolutions began to take shape. In sessions filled with strategic negotiation and thoughtful amendments, delegates mastered the art of compromise and coalition-building. The spirit of the conference's emphasis on collaboration and multifaceted approaches was evident in every working paper and moderated caucus.
The closing ceremony served as a moment of reflection and celebration. Awards recognized the delegates' performance, and while some may not have received an award, every participant left with new connections, insights, and increased confidence. The Student Director General delivered closing remarks that emphasized the hope and inspiration that an activity like Model UN can bring to the next generation. From the first gavel strike to the final moments, OXMUN Global was not merely a conference; it was a collective effort of ambition, empathy, and internationalism.
The International Affairs Association (IAA), SHSID's High School Model UN Club, was at the heart of it all. The IAA's members and volunteers were the backbone of this conference: monitoring committee dynamics, capturing memories, and ensuring every delegate had a space to be heard. Leading up to the conference, the IAA conducted numerous training efforts, such as position paper workshops and impromptu speech practice, to prepare SHSID delegates. Their hard work was evident in the awards this year, with SHSID students winning Best Delegate across six committees and SHSID taking home Best Delegation overall.
Noting that this year's OXMUN Global was the largest in scale and participation, the IAA will continue to uphold its quality and prestige in the years to come.
