Puxi Campus G8 | Tug of War
The weather is getting warmer as we’re getting closer to the middle of spring. A drizzling rain announces the start of a sports competition on the SHSID campus. On March 27th, the eighth-grade students of the international division participated in a tug-of-war competition. The twelve homerooms are divided into six groups, competing head-to-head. After the first round of the competition, six homerooms advance to the next round. The three homerooms that lose in the second round will be competing each other and the winner will advance to the next round with the three homerooms that win the second round. The first and second places in the competition will be found in the two homerooms that enter the final round of the game.
Even though the competition takes place indoors this year, the passion of students has not decreased a bit. The students put on their gloves, lining up along the rope with one at the left and one at the right, placing the rope under their arms, and bending their knees. Waiting for the battle to begin. The determinations sparkling in their eyes reveal their confidence and ambition to win the game and their trust in their teammates.
As the referee makes the signal, students on both sides erupt into action. The voices of “One! Two! Three!” enlighten the room. The students lean back to keep themselves in balance, grabbing the rope and pulling it in their direction. The classmates who do not take part in the game cheer for their friends and homeroom, pushing the competition to a new height.
Tug-of-war is not merely a contest of strength and force, it is also the teamwork between friends and classmates. Between the rounds, the students gather to discuss strategies to win over their opponents. The smiles on the faces of their friends and the cheers from the spectators are the best gifts from the game. Friendship is more precious than the results of the competition.
After several rounds of the game, class 8-11 claims the champion of the competition, class 8-3 wins the second place, while class 8-6 and 8-7 share the third place.
The curtains of the tug-of-war competition gradually close with the shouts of joy of the students. Joyfulness and satisfaction mirror on their faces yet exhaustion fills their bodies. This activity will become a cherished memory of both the eighth-grade students and the teachers, encouraging them to face future challenges hand in hand.
