Middle and Primary School English Department:G6 English Book Showcase
Recently, the Hsi Reading Room came alive with creativity as Grade 6 English students showcased their original books for the 2025 Novel Partner Project Book Showcasewas held to celebrate the imagination and hard work of our young authors.
Over five weeks, students crafted either whimsical children’s books or insightful Grade 6 survival guides, blending fiction, figurative language, and life lessons inspired by classic fiction the students are studying in class. Many of the students’ books were beautifully illustrated, professionally bound, and exceptionally interactive.
This project empowers students to take ownership of their learning by blending creativity, collaboration, and communication. They engaged deeply with the writing process—brainstorming, drafting, illustrating, and designing—while building leadership, teamwork, and public speaking skills.
Not only that, but the students also acted as “little teachers” by reading aloud these handmade stories to the fourth graders, so that they could feel the charm of creativity and the power of words.
The project fulfills the school’s aim to foster critical and creative thinking. Providing students with purpose for learning with an authentic audience allows them to see how their learning both applies to and prepares them for their lifelong journey.
