A Triumphant Debut for the Stallions Junior Ice Hockey Team
With the great support of the school and the enthusiastic response of parents, the SHSID Ice Hockey Team registered for the 2023-2024 Shanghai Ice Sports Games for Primary and Secondary Schools.
Pre-match preparations involved two training sessions and the design of distinctive uniforms. The coach had good luck in the draw, and the first game the Stallions faced the Flame-junior Girls’ Team on December 10th. Despite our players coming from different clubs, they rallied together for school honor, displaying great determination.
In the first game, our distinctive style emerged – forwards collaborated with decisive attacks, the defenders defended actively. #87 Iverson netted the first goal with #22 assisting. #97 Toby soloed for the second goal, and the only girl in the team #22 Doreen, tapped in the third. The last goal was still scored by #87 Iverson. In the third quarter of the game, a foul by our team created a free kick for the opponent, our goalie #99 Brayden withstood the pressure and successfully blocked the shot. Finally, we secured a 4-0 victory, a triumphant debut for the Stallions Ice Hockey Team!
The second game was scheduled at 8pm on the same day, and the opponent was the strongest U10 team in the group, the Century Star Falcons. Facing formidable opponents, our varsity team showed momentum. The goalie made acrobatic saves, and even jumped out of the goal to save at one point! The defenders never wavered, cutting off many strong attacks of the opponent. The forwards were intercepted halfway through with the ball many times, but finally seized the opportunity in the final quarter, #87 Iverson broke through the defense and rushed to the attacking zone, scored a goal with a backhand! Against such a mature club team, our newly established varsity team ended up with a score of 5-1. Although we lost, the result exceeded everyone's expectations.
On December 16th Saturday came the competition against the Feiyang Star for the bronze medal. Our young players were geared up and ready to give it their all! It was a fiercely contested match, with the audience’s exclamations one after another. The Feiyang Star took a lead with two goals, despite being behind, our varsity team players fought tenaciously. In the third quarter, #97 Toby scored two goals, leveling the score. However, in the final minute, the opponents scored again, leading to a narrow 3-2 defeat. Though the novice players had limited playing time, their emotional resonance on the sidelines provided crucial support! The parents were full of enthusiasm and felt honored and proud for their children to play for Stallions!
The Stallions Icy Hockey Team finished in 4th, competing against club teams. This achievement earned praise from coaches and teachers. The players, driven by a strong sense of mission and honor, embodied the spirit of SHSID. Looking ahead, we anticipate the continued growth and success of the Stallions Ice Hockey Team! We hope that more ice hockey fans will join us in the future! Wear the Stallions jerseys and fight for glory!
