MFP Club: "Ode to New Year's Joy" Charity Concert
To bid farewell to the old and welcome the new, the MFP club held a charity concert called "Ode to New Year's Joy" at the end of December at the Shanghai Children's Medical Center. On this unforgettable afternoon, performers prepared a diverse performance that spans multiple music styles and cultures.
The first performance was "See You Again" brought by some members of the school orchestra. The saxophone has the characteristics of brightness, roughness, and rigidity; The trombone has a high pitched, brilliant, solemn, magnificent, and full tone; The sound of the horn is deep and melodious. Different voices bring beautiful and pleasant harmonies to everyone.
Next is the piano solo "White Christmas" performed by Enzo. This song has become popular worldwide, and artists from many countries have covered it. Even today, this song is still being played on the streets. Listed by Guinness World Records as the best-selling single in the United States and the United Kingdom, it is one of the most famous Christmas songs in the world.
Enzo, Brian, and Daniel played Rachmaninoff Piano Trio No.1. As the most skilled pianist of the first half of the 20th century and the last romantic composer, Rachmaninov forged an immortal monument in piano music. Compared to his extensive piano works, Rachmaninov's chamber music can be described as scarce in quantity. Apart from a certain number of artistic songs, his instrumental works only include one cello sonata and two piano trios known as "melancholic songs," with the piano always dominating his chamber music.
The flute and piano ensemble "Hamburger Sonata in G Major" was performed by classmates Edward and Jessica. This rondo sonata was created by Bach during his tenure in the church. The melody has a singing and lively personality. The notes in the music dance gracefully like dancers, accompanied by changes in melody.
The piano solo "Lyric Tune" was performed by Stephen. The author of this song, Hopcock, is a famous female composer. This piece is a romantic aria, as if a singer is using her voice to express various emotions in her heart.
The song "You Raise Me Up" was performed in sign language by students from the Sign Language Club of SHSID. This song conveys a positive and uplifting spiritual power to the audience through its beautiful melody and positive lyrics. In addition to the auditory inspiration brought by songs, the sign language used by hearing-impaired individuals can also be conveyed.
Anna's cello solo "Kikujiro's Summer" originates from the animated work "Kikujiro's Summer". This song depicts a brilliant starry sky, continuous green mountains, and rolling fields and describes the childhood yearning in dreams, the youth yearning, and the summer yearning.
The electric guitar solo "Viva La Vida" was performed by Albert. And Sophia performed a piano solo "Fantasy Improvisation in C minor".
"Call of Silence" performed by Eric, Andy, and Ingemar was composed by Hiroyuki Sawano and appeared in the second season of the popular anime "Attack on Titan" . Finally, the song "Pretending" was performed by Ocean and Claire.
The wonderful performance of the students attracted many patients and medical staff to stop and watch, gaining enthusiastic applause from everyone. After the concert, the club members visited the patients in the ward and presented them with New Year’s gifts. Their visits and listening provided encouragement and support for the sick children. In the new year, the club will adhere to its original intention, to spread love and care through music.
