Grade 11 Assembly: Introduction to Basque Country
During the juniors’ assembly on June 1, Xabat from 11(2) captivated the attention of his peers. He introduced the distinctive culture of his hometown, Basque Country. Throughout his presentation, he shed light on various aspects of this region.
First of all, he highlighted the uniqueness of the language spoken in Basque Country. This language boasts an enigmatic origin and holds the distinction of being the oldest European language untouched by external cultural influences. Furthermore, he drew parallels between the Basque and Chinese languages, illustrating their shared characteristics, such as the absence of grammatical gender distinctions and the formatting of dates.
Secondly, Xabat shared an intriguing anecdote about his Basque name, which comprises eight surnames inherited from his father, mother, grandmother, and so forth. He proceeded to play videos showcasing the popularity of certain sports in this region, including Esku pilota and San Fermin, which left many students astounded.
Lastly, he emphasized the gastronomic delights of his homeland, such as "sociedad" and "pintxos," which serve as focal points for gatherings among families and friends. The students were also enthralled by the exquisite tourist destinations Xabat mentioned in Basque Country, such as La Concha and El Peine del Viento.
The presentation served as an invaluable opportunity for students to expand their knowledge of an entirely unfamiliar region. It provided them with a chance to broaden their perspectives by gaining insights into unique cultures and traditions.
