Grade 11 Assembly: How to Adjust Yourself in High School - Personal Experience Sharing

November 29, 2022

On November 17 and 24, Bella Dai from Grade 11 talked about her experience in middle school. As a student who had transferred from a domestic school to an international school, the biggest change for her was to adapt to the classroom content and English-teaching methods. In domestic schools, English essays only required complete logic and correct grammar. Complex sentences, carefully chosen adjectives, and clear structures were not important to that English class designed for non-native English speakers. Therefore, when attending her first classes here at an international school, Bella felt anxious and inferior. But gradually, she found friends and teachers who would care for and comfort her. Along with the help from her friends, she was also inspired by a song——Lin Junjie's "Keyword". The song says, "Love yourself well, and someone will love you". This is what Bella is now trying to do——to love herself.

Slowly, Bella began to adapt to the campus life of SHSID. Bella came to terms with herself and realized the importance of establishing social connections. Instead of guessing what others thought of her, she reached out to others to make friends. As time has passed by, there is little time remaining now in high school life. Bella has gotten rid of her previous anxiety and, as she looks back now, she remarks she has made great progress.
