Grade 10 Assembly: Utilizing Online Resources

October 28, 2022

On October 26th, Grade10 students gathered at the Zhentao lecture hall for a weekly assembly. Audrey from class 10(12) shared different helpful online platforms and her personal experience in using them.

Audrey’s speech was divided into three sections: online courses, summer school, and virtual volunteering. She explained how free online courses are useful in gaining understanding in a specific field, whether it be STEM subjects, literature, social science, arts, or more. Introductory courses can help determine if you have interest in one area, while more advanced courses can provide professional skillsets. Other platforms also provide academic-related courses, useful for previewing or reviewing of school content and standardized tests. As for summer school, Audrey shared her personal experience attending an online course at the University of Chicago, where she learned about statistics, finance, machine learning, and more. She presented three takeaways from the summer course: more advanced skillsets, highlighting on her personal profile, and also growth from a mock process of college applications she’ll do the real thing for in the future. Finally, Audrey also urged her peers to make contributions to the community through online methods. She gave examples of platforms that allowed individuals to join in scientific research, mental health therapy, and projects under UN development goals. From these various platforms, students can diversify their activities and positively interact with communities regardless of geographical distance.
