High School STEM Club Showcase — Joyful Learning, Innovative Sharing
During the afternoon of Oct. 18, the SHSID High School STEM Club Showcase as well as the opening of the 2022 Science Fair entitled “Pursue, Excel” were held in front of the Zhentao Building. With the effort from all the STEM clubs, the showcase helped the students focus their interests via diverse interesting activities.
Students from the SHSID Plant club spent one year on their elegant product, the SHSID Plant Calendar, which is a collection of beautiful scenes of plants on the SHSID campus on paper. The members of the PMM club made “water rockets” to illustrate the principles of real rockets. The Interaction Design club members showed their newly coded UI to the students. Members of the Game Development club took their video game product to the showcase. Students from the GT Racing club made a special track to test their remote-control cars.
Academics were also the main role of the showcase. The innovative students from the Math Modeling club did lots of statistics to reveal the nature of science. The SciAcademy club was popular for its unique science experiments. STEM Dodge’s challenging questions attracted many students. At the Science Fair and at the booth for SHSID's Birding club, beautiful pictures of birds are covered here and there, reminding students of the beauty of diversity on campus. Students from the Linguistics club focused on different dialects, leading to some interesting discussions of Chinese culture.
The one-hour timeslot for the showcase was not enough for SHSID students to show their creativity and it was only the introduction of the 2022 Science Fair. There will be more spectacular STEM activities in the coming weeks. According to our school’s educational philosophy, “To impart the achievements of contemporary science and technology, to cultivate the talents of the 21st Century”, the Science Fair is the annual carnival for the students to show their creativity, to focus on their interests, as well as to acquire integrated development.
