Grade 7: Psychological Sharing
On the afternoon of September 15th, SHSID G7 students listened to a psychology lecture by Ms. Sun.
Ms. Sun first summarized points from psychological counseling literature such as, “Counseling for Toads: A Psychology Adventure” and “Nonviolent Communication”. She introduced what to look for if students are struggling with signs of depression and how to deal with such feelings. Ms. Yu, our new psychological counselor was also introduced for the first time.
Ms. Sun also mentioned the continuation of the Psychological Book Reading Club, a club that will help students to deepen their knowledge of psychology and share obstacles in their daily life. The aim of the Reading Club is to decrease the students’ pressure and to assist the students in their path of recognizing themselves. Another avenue with the same purpose of helping students is the Tree Hole Chatroom in Zong Wu building: a counselor will guide a student through a small chat to help the student realize what issues they may be facing and come up with a plan to tackle them.
At the beginning of the sharing, the students were too shy to express their opinions. Gradually, under the guidance of Ms. Sun, the students opened their hearts and actively participated in the discussion. Ms. Sun listened carefully to the students' questions and answered them one by one in a professional and humorous tone. Students were able to feel comfortable talking and share their thoughts freely without fear of judgment.
Through this sharing, the students have a new understanding of psychology and have a fresh outlook on how to access such reading and sharing activities.
