Middle and Primary School Math Department: Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad 2020 Results
After many days of anxious waiting, we have finally learned the results of the prestigious Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad Awards (SASMO), one of Asia’s biggest math competitions. Nearly 15,570 students from around the world took part in the competition this year. SHSID Students from Grade 5 to Grade 8 actively participated in the competition and achieved excellent results despite facing many fierce contenders. Even more impressively, the top scorer in China was from our school! Among the 123 participants in grades 5 to 8, 22 students won the gold prize, 23 students won the silver prize, and 37 students won the bronze prize. We are so proud of our students’thorough preparation and determination that earned such impressive results!
The goal of the SASMO is to engage students’ interest in mathematical problem solving and to further develop their mathematical intuition, logical reasoning, creativity, and critical thinking skills. The competition consists of 15 procedural and 10 conceptual questions, which sum to a total of 85 points, and must be completed in just one and a half hours.
Students were proud of their outstanding achievements and expressed commitment to further developing their critical thinking and problem-solving strategies. Congratulations to all the winning students! We look forward to more hard-earned achievements in the upcoming Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC)!
