Pudong Campus: Blooming Online — E-Learning PG Class
With April showers giving life to the Earth and all that it holds, spring has finally sprung. Everyone, teachers and students, are craving for growth just like plants longing to bloom, even under the current exceptional circumstances. Since SHSID commenced the E-learning session, Pudong campus students have not only been absorbed in academic studies, but they have also progressed mentally and socially through the weekly Personal Growth classes online.
Grade one to Grade three students started their online PG classes with bucket filling activities. Speaking with good purpose has been a consistent focus during our school life. For now, our creative teachers continue to use this “string of kindness” to connect each student. They introduced the game of name blocks and asked each student to pick two names from their classmates, after which, students used words or drawings to express their gratitude or appreciation towards their buddies. The digital classes were filled with warmth and kindness. Emotional education was also among the major PG topics. Continuously staying indoors can be a challenge for emotional stability. During the class, students learned how to identify their emotions and acquired some proper strategies to cope with mood swings. The 3rd grade teachers shared an interesting story called “The Island of Grump.” From the story, the students understood it’s normal to have negative emotions, but being stuck in the negative emotions too long is harmful. After the class, everyone shared their favorite calming down strategies on Seesaw.
The students in 4thGrade received a special mission from their PG class, which was to draw a spring bird and tell a story about how the bird enjoyed the delightful season. The teachers couldn’t wait to show their talent. Though the chubby birds they drew were no match for those created by talented students, teachers’ stories definitely received the most applause.
As the seniors of Pudong campus, 5thGrade students made full use of their PG classes and kept themselves busy in every possible and fun way. Suggested by the teachers, everyone turned themselves into organic and helpful members of their families. They shared house cleaning work, took care of pets and plants, and even became family chefs. Every single job required their true effort, and by doing these tasks students learned to enjoy and cherish family time.
Spring is always about growth and renewal. Even during such a special period, we celebrate this blissful season by dedicating ourselves to learning, supporting and appreciating. The epidemic may prevent us from getting together, but it can never stop us from thriving.
