High School Economics Department: Online Teaching Experience Sharing
On the afternoon of March 27th, the teachers from the Economics Department held an online video conference to share their experience during the recent online teaching period. During the meeting, the sharing mainly came from Ms. Ye Zhen. She described her attempts to facilitate class discussions but found that discussions in group of 5-6 were not very effective as some students did not actively participate and talk. When the group size was reduced to 2-3 students, more students were involved, especially quieter students. Therefore, it could help teachers to focus on each student’s learning outcomes. Additionally, she shared two useful apps that can be used for lesson recording and making notes on files. During her demonstration, many of the other teachers showed willingness to try these apps. Later, Ms. Ye gave some tips on class management, including how to post a To Do list on the virtual background, deal with late submission of homework and trace students’ attention. Lastly, she raised some challenges she has met so far. These included the stability of the network and the difficulties of setting up an online quiz. In this sharing session, Ms. Ye generously shared her positive experiences, and other teachers in the group were largely inspired. They will try to apply some of her advice based on these experiences in their own classes to further improve their teaching quality. These sharing sessions will be held every week from now on, and different teachers will be invited in turn to share their feelings and experiences.
