Grade 10: Sharing about Learning and Life – 10(9) John
The fourth week sharing came from John. John has long shown enthusiastic support for charities. From the bottom of his heart, he thinks that every person should be responsible for serving the public and contributing to society. He was actively involved in all kinds of welfare events, including volunteering in Shanghai Children's Medical Center as a helper and Shanghai Sheshan Observatory as a guide. He also continues to donate towards the tuition fees of a student from Sichuan LiangShan area, something he started four years ago.
John created the club AIM, short for “Aid in Motion”, where he intends to help autistic kids and deliver joy through sharing and playing with them. Over the past two years, John has accompanied and helped a lot of autistic kids. At the same time, he invited professionals to deliver a lecture at school and developed a WeChat account to raise autism awareness among other students. Wanting to differentiate from other autistic training institutions, John designed a unique fusion approach. Based on the tendency for autistic children to isolate themselves, John and his club members collaborated with autistic kids through a most basic and pure method, doing whatever they liked and enjoying it together with them. They played football, sang songs and drew pictures together. The autistic kids opened their hearts to student volunteers and were willing to communicate with them.
In addition to on-campus activities, John has actively contacted autistic charities and has been involved in several public events. For example, he organized club members to participate in the Adream Foundation and launched the AiAiAi Youth Creative Activities to help with job creation so that these young people will have opportunities after they graduate. After two years of persistence, the parents of autistic children were very happy with their kids’ progress and expressed great appreciation for John. Due to his unyielding efforts, John was named Outstanding Volunteer in the 2020 Pramerica Fosun Spirit of Community Awards.
