Grade 10: Club Activity Sharing – Bananaheads

March 31, 2020

As COVID-19 spreads the world, Bananaheads has no choice but to cancel their planned second semester events, such as the village teaching program and the charity concert. After multiple emergency online meetings, organizers have decided to publish a brand-new series of original podcasts instead. As high school students, the magnitude of stress that results from growing academic expectations in addition to uncertainties over their imminent futures goes without saying. And as they fall deep into stress, they tend to neglect their mental wellbeing. As a result, the podcast, named The Soap Box, aims to raise awareness for adolescent mental health. For 10-15 minutes per week, they will help students relieve stress, open their hearts, and emphasize individual mental health through sharing anonymous submissions and personal stories. The Soap Box is currently under preparation, and it will debut in late-March to early-April—remember to tune in!

Hoping to evoke a sense of social responsibility in teenagers, Bananaheads initiates a brand-new project each year regarding a specific social topic and encourages its members to actively participate in the projects they are interested in. This year, they have narrowed their events down to two major projects: teenage mental health and awareness towards autism. In 2020 May, they will continue to hold their annual art exhibit project for children with autism in an attempt to not only raise awareness but also to raise donations by organizing a charity auction at the end of the exhibit. During the epidemic outbreak, it is important to maintain good study habits, but social activities are also undoubtedly an essential addition to online school life. As club members are no longer able to be in contact other club members, organizers recommend students hold meetings through online communication software such as Zoom or WeChat. Through different mediums such as writing, drawing, and broadcasting, they hope every student can spread positivity in his/her own unique way.
