High School Economics Department: Online Economics Classes

March 31, 2020

Through measures to contain the COVID-19 epidemic, classes were moved from offline to online. In order to enrich their teaching methods and content to facilitate online teaching, teachers in the Economics Department brainstormed and prepared lessons together to ensure a high quality of teaching was maintained. Some teachers designed short, online, timed quizzes, and some teachers used the group discussion function to instruct students with different needs, thus making the classes more student oriented.

Additionally, in order to encourage students who stay at home to learn more of the latest news and know what is happening around the world, teachers intended to discuss current events with students. After encouraging students to read news articles and watch videos, they discussed the economic effects of the epidemic on the Chinese and global economy, and the relevant economic policies used by different countries to boost their national economies. They aimed to guide students to learn to observe and apply theories into practice. Also, the “Discussion Board” on Blackboard allowed students to freely share their opinions and have debates online.
