Pudong Grade 1–5: the Colorful Author’s Week! — Nothing Can Stop Us from Reading
This week is Author's Week atSHSID Pudong campus.Thatstudentsarenot in the classroom cannot stoptheirdesireto readandtheir thirst for knowledge! Students from Grade one to Grade threeparticipated in rich and varied reading events online. Let's see how they enjoyed those wonderful activities:
The first graders had different reading challenges related to books written by Dr. Seuss every day this week. On Monday, the students readaninteresting storyThe Cat in the Hat,after which they designed and made their own hats. Proud of theirmasterpieces, the first gradersshowed theirdistinctivehatduring a Zoom meeting. On Tuesday, after listening to the storyFox in Socks, the studentspracticed sayingsome tongue twisters. They finished an interesting writing gameas well. Wednesday was even more special. The students participated in an entertaining activity namedWacky Wednesday. They tried to find unusual detail in that day's LC lessons. TheHop on Popthemed activity on Thursday ignited the kids' interest. Not only did they find some specified vocab words, but theyenjoyed wearing twin costumes with apartner! Friday was the last day of Author's Week.With the help of their parents and the guidance from teachers, first graders learned how to bakeGreen Eggs and Hamfroma secret recipe. How fun it was!
Here come our versatile artists from second grade. In this special week, they could actually choose from three forms of artwork after they were divided into groups.Then, theyselectedabook that allstory palsin the grouploved. Some of the kidsdecidedto become cartoonists. They created exquisite comic stripsonthe storiesthe booktells. Some of the kids became actors and actresses. They dressed up as a book character and tried to imitate the character’s personality. Other second graderswere realdirectors.Based onthestory, theydesigneda wonderfulplotmap! Most importantly,everypiece ofamazing artworkwas ajointeffortby the team.
The third graders enjoyed the joy of reading throughout Author's Week. They had different challenges from Monday to Thursday, such asDressUpAsYourFavoriteIdiom,Reading Challenge Bingo, andRead in a Tent. In these activities, the students adopted various waysofreadingindependently and with their families.Also, they were so excited to share their reading experiencesand pictures on the LC forumand to guess idioms. During the fun learning experience, they not only expandedtheirvocabularybut also felt the charm of language.
