Grade 11: Our Weekly Sharing—Overcoming Time Differences During Online Learning

March 25, 2020

In order to help students better adapt to online learning, Grade 11 students shared their experiences with online learning under different circumstances. Henry from 11(8) shared his unforgettable experience of participating in online learning while coping with the time difference in France. He shared the following experience to help encourage everyone to complete their online learning tasks:

Henry spent his winter holiday of 2020 in Marseilles. This 40-day holiday became one of the most unforgettable experiences of his life. One day, he received a message from his homeroom teacher: E-classes are starting. At first, he was pretty worried because of the 7-hour difference between France and China. This meant that if Henry took the morning classes at 8:30 am, he’d have to get up at 1 am in France. If he take the afternoon classes that start at 13:10, he’d have to get up at 5 am in France. Finally, Henry chose to take the afternoon classes only and self-study the morning classes.

What Henry learned from this period of jet-lagged studying was his enhanced ability to take more initiative. He would prepare more and proactively ask teachers questions. During those 3 weeks of E- classes, he also tried the “fabulous” day-night reversal three times, but it didn’t turn out well. This experience made him realize that being more efficient is more important than prolonging studying time.

We hope students can learn from Henry’s experience, utilize their time well, and enjoy online learning.
