Grade 10: Sharing about Learning and Life

March 18, 2020

At the beginning of the Spring Festival holiday, we encountered the coronavirus outbreak. Students were curious and listened to all kinds of news. They learned a lot of information about the virus, and acknowledged the current spread of the outbreak. Even if they must stay in their home, the internet can let them meet with friends and teachers very easily without any obstacles, so life is not lonely.

During this special period, students still follow the school routine, but enjoy the extra sleeping time they get in the morning. Students not only use Zoom and Blackboard and other platforms to catch up their academic learning, but also try to do some physical indoor exercises. It is quite important to keep doing exercises. Some students have arranged their daily life very efficiently. Diandre is one of them. Despite the homework he must complete, he also tries his best to exercise. He does some push-ups and crunches every day and also does some indoor cycling. He rides about 25 km once every two days, and usually he rides for forty minutes each time. He also participates in many club activities. Although they can’t have any school sessions, they keep communicating through WeChat and Zoom. One major club he participates in is the Chemistry Competition Club; he is both teaching and being taught in this club. He assigns learning tasks and homework to 9th graders, and receives homework from the 11th graders.

Another student is Richard. He takes advantage of this precious spare time to fully prepare for the future AP and SAT exams. This opportunity lets him read and do extra questions daily, which helps improve his test-taking skills and makes him more confident. Moreover, the CTB Competition happened to be during this epidemic period, and it was a great teamwork experience to work closely with other peers online. Beyond this, practicing violin every day is his compulsory program, and playing the violin has become a way to relax himself and move his fingertips. Of course, students may spend more time with the family together during the epidemic, which is something beneficial that has come out of the outbreak. Although the epidemic has brought us difficulties and challenges, we believe we will overcome them one by one, and we hope the epidemic will come to an end soon so that we can return to normal learning life again.
