Grade 9:Students Organize Donations to Buy Protective Clothing to Support Hospitals

March 18, 2020

When coronavirus is prevalent and when hundreds or even thousands of people are infected with coronavirus every day, doctors and nurses who fight the virus day and night do not have sufficient protective equipment, and their health is not guaranteed. Tiger Ding of Class 9(4) and his friends saw the current situation of medical staff and were deeply worried about them. They thought: doctors are fighting at the front line, we must do something.

They learned that doctors in Shanghai Xinhua Hospital and Zhejiang Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital were short of protective clothing. After a short discussion, they decided to buy 300 pieces of protective clothing at a total of 55,000 yuan. And Tiger decided to mobilize people to raise funds through a donation drive. In the next few days, they wrote a donation proposal and then showed it to the public, posting WeChat collection codes so that warm-hearted friends could donate to support. Later, many friends took part in the donation activity, and the total amount of donation reached 65,642 yuan soon—far exceeding expectation. Tiger paid for 300 pieces of protective clothing and sent them to the two hospitals previously agreed upon. The director of Shanghai Xinhua Hospital mentioned that doctors and nurses eat less and drink less in order to save protective clothing, thus going to the toilet less. This donation has really eased their predicament. With more support like this, doctors and nurses will be able to work more conveniently and safely. As for the remaining 10,642 yuan, they bought anti-fog glasses, so that medical staff can work more conveniently and do not need to stop from time to time to wipe away the fog on the glasses. 280 anti-fog mirrors were sent to Shanghai Yueyang Hospital, Shanghai Huashan Hospital and Zhejiang Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital.

Tiger said that although the money they donate may seem insignificant compared with large charities, they also try their best to improve the current situation of medical staff. A single spark can start a prairie fire. They hope they can help frontline doctors and support them to defeat coronavirus. They also hope that their little spark will add into the fire that will burn away the dark shadow of the virus. May China and the world heal soon.
