Middle School Chinese Department: The Fantastic Chinese Lessons

During this special time, teachers from the middle school Chinese group created elaborated Chinese lessons on LC and led the students to experience many aspects of Chinese culture and customs.

Under the leadership of the middle school administrators, Chinese group teachers put a lot of effort into lesson video recording. Considering the students’ perspective, teachers have put focus on students’ learning experience. With the advantage of the various functions provided on the LC platform and the well-designed videos, teachers have succeeded in bringing their students a wonderfully informative learning experience.

In the native level class, we have many activities. For the 6th graders, we have the Show My Voice reading competition, Wearing Chinese Costume and Poem Reading, Guessing the Famous Prose by Pictures, etc. For the 7th graders, we have introduced texts about the seaside, along with many additional activities such as projects about nature, coloring the plants, writing letters to parents, and character analyses after reading the novelTales of the Hulan River. For 8th graders, with the Walking Into The Classics activity, we introduced the classic novelsRomance of the Three KingdomsandWater Margin. They are also preparing for the short play and graduation pamphlet.

For the non-native students, teachers have created a lot of activities. Teachers set the situations such as buying things, making Chinese cuisine, and sorting the garbage to let the students practice language use in real life. Many cultural videos also enable students to experience the beauty and interest of Chinese.

Teachers from the Chinese group also made a series of lectures to make the LC online course more attractive. We have many topics such as “Talking about the Spring Couplets”, “The Story from Shih-shuo Hsin-Yu”, “Looking at the Tree”, and “The Origin of the Ancient Officers”. We intend to widen the view of students and increase their interest of learning Chinese.
